Employment Skills PowerPoint Presentation-Career Choice

 

 

 

Over the next five days, you will be putting your research on OCIS to work by creating a PowerPoint.  Ohio Career Information Systems has hopefully helped you make a more informed choice on your future career goals. Please share what you have learned in a 15 slide presentation that will be given to the class.  Please follow the directions below to ensure you receive full credit.  A rubric containing specifics will be handed out in class on Tuesday.  Good Luck!  

 

 

 

Slide 1) Name of chosen career path/your name

Slide 2) 1 paragraph on why you chose this career

Slide 3-4) Why you would be good at this career?  What skills and abilities do you have?  What skills do you need?  If you are missing any key skills, can you learn how to master the needed skills?

Slide 5) What classes in High School can help you prepare for your chosen career?  Do we have the classes here?  If not, what else can you do to prepare yourself now for your future career?  

Slide 6-7) What college offers this program?  Where is it located?  How much does it cost per year for tuition/room/board?

Slide 8) College admittance-What are the minimum requirements (G.P.A., SAT or ACT, letters of recommendation, etc…) How many years will you have to attend?  How much will your college journey cost you?  

Slide 9) Do you meet the requirements listed in slide 8?  If not, what is your plan of action (how can you get into your dream college/college of choice?)

Slide 10) Future Career-What does your future job entail?  Give specifics of your daily activities?

Slide 11)  Wages-How much do new grads make in your chosen field?  How much can your make per year?  Use Ohiomeansjobs.com and find a company hiring.  

Slide 12) Future outlook/Demand for your career? Will you have to move?

Slide 13) Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Slide 14) Interview someone that in your chosen career field.  If you cannot meet in person, you may email or have a phone interview.  Please ask the following questions:

a)      Why did you want to become a _____________( nurse, teacher, firemen, etc…)

b)      Was that (answer to above) always your first career choice?  If not, what did you originally want to become?

c)      What advice can you give me regarding this career choice?  

d)      Knowing what you know now, would you still go into this field?  If not, why?

e)      What are you responsible for in your position?  

f)        What would you change (if you could) about your career?

g)      What should I do now to prepare myself for this position/career choice?
